Introduction

A new 21-story tower will be built in San Jose, Costa Rica to continue the movement by the city to become a technological hub in Central America. The $50 million USD project will bring a new look to the skyline and has already contracted their first tenant, Microsoft has announced that this building will house their headquarters in Costa Rica. The location was chosen for its close proximity to the two most important highways in Costa Rica.


The Ougan Group won the contract and has implemented the bi-directional load test, along with a local engineering company, at the end of 2018. The tested pile is a working pile on the project with a diameter of 1.2m and a length of 45m, the maximum test load for the pile was 42,500kN.

 

The Super Cell was selected for its unique design which unlike a load cell with steel plates, encourages the grout to move and fill the void made after the load test in the pile. This design is what makes the Super Cell the load cell of choice when the pile is to be a working pile after the load test.  This point was noticed by the owner of the project and for which he has put his trust in using the Super Cell.

 

After this initial success in Cost Rica, the Ougan Group has been quickly awarded another load test project to begin next month (March) in Costa Rica.  Another great job by the people of Ougan.
